Parinaud Oculoglandular Syndrome 2015: Review of the Literature and Update on Diagnosis and Management

چکیده
Parinaud oculoglandular syndrome (POGS) is an ocular granulomatous inflammatory condition characterized by unilateral follicular bulbar or palpebral conjunctivitis. Although POGS often presents as an atypical manifestation of cat scratch disease (CSD), other infectious and autoimmune etiologies have been described. Due to the rare nature of this ocular syndrome and scarcity of literature on this topic, POGS is often missed on the initial diagnostic workup. Here, we provide a brief description of disease process, and present a review of the literature on POGS in the past two decades to understand the trends in etiology of disease. Based on the results of this review, we also suggest an algorithm for diagnosis and management of POGS.

We present a case of ophthalmia nodosa and Parinaud's oculoglandular syndrome in a patient scratched by a cat six and a half months previously and who gave a positive result to an antigen test for cat scratch disease. In conjunctival swabs were also found urticarial hairs, tracheal fragments, processionary caterpillar oenocytes, and a grain of pollen. The pathogenic part played by each of these...

Cat scratch disease (CSD) is usually a mild selflimiting illness characterized by regional lymphadenitis occurring 2 to 3 weeks after an injury to the skin by a scratch from a cat. Recent evidence describes small, pleomorphic Gram-negative bacteria as the causative organisms.'`4 The main proponents of this hypothesis attempted to fulfil Koch's postulates in an animal model (armadillo), though o...

We report an unusual case of a young male with cerebellar hemangioblastoma treated previously for medullary carcinoma of thyroid, whose PET/CT scans revealed a constellation of findings that suggested the rare Von Hippel Lindau syndrome. The diagnosis was clinched by confirming the findings on whole body contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) and contrast enha...
